Kiyan Anthony: The Rising Star Forging His Own Path
As a rising star in high school basketball, Kiyan Anthony is making waves on the court while navigating the shadows of a legendary lineage. The son of NBA great Carmelo Anthony, Kiyan has shone brightly with his talent and poise, earning himself a prominent spot in the 2025 rankings as a four-star recruit and the No. 36 prospect.
Currently standing at an impressive 6-foot-5, Kiyan is a key player for Long Island Lutheran High School in Brookville, New York. His athleticism and skill have already garnered significant attention from top-tier college programs across the nation.
College Prospects and High Expectations
Kiyan has listed an array of potential colleges, including Auburn, USC, Florida State, Ohio State, Rutgers, and Syracuse. The mention of Syracuse, in particular, evokes a strong familial connection. Carmelo Anthony, Kiyan’s father, famously led Syracuse to the national championship in 2003 as a freshman and has since contributed substantially to the university’s basketball facility, which now bears his name.
However, Kiyan is adamant about charting his own course. "Even though I know basically the whole world wants me to go to Syracuse, I still haven't made the decision yet and I still have to talk to the coaches some more and really get into detail -- like what other players are coming, how they want me to play, how I'll be coached and stuff like that," Kiyan explained.
He emphasized his father's supportive but non-intrusive stance: "[My father] never pushes me to go to Syracuse just because his name is on the gym. He did so much at Syracuse. He knows that I'm my own person. I've just got to make my own decision at the end of the day." This thoughtful approach underscores Kiyan’s dedication to making a choice best suited for his future, regardless of external pressures.
Strong Family Support
Kiyan’s journey is buoyed by a solid support system at home, with his mother playing a critical role behind the scenes. "I would say everybody sees when the cameras are on [my dad] and then they're on me because I'm playing good, but I would say my mom does a lot more background stuff," Kiyan noted. "Like, when I'm going through something or I need somebody to talk to, my mom is definitely the person."
This close family bond is further highlighted by her active involvement in his daily routine. "And she's the one who really pushes me to get in the gym, even if I don't want to. To go to school and stay on top of my grades and stuff like that," Kiyan added.
On-Court Highlights and Community Influence
Kiyan’s performance on the court has been nothing short of stellar. In April, he scored 15 points at the historic Rucker Park, showcasing his skill in a venue steeped in basketball tradition.
Beyond his individual accolades, Kiyan remains grounded and considerate of those around him. "My friends maybe not having the same opportunities as I have, I'm the one that's tried to bring them along with me," he mentioned, highlighting his sense of responsibility towards his peers. "I don't want to make them feel left out," he added, reflecting a maturity that extends beyond his years.
Looking Ahead
As Kiyan weighs his college options, he remains contemplative and deliberate. "So I still have to finish up my visits, and then, ultimately, just make a decision. I will rely on my parents a lot with their advice and how they think a school fits me," he shared.
The possibility of attending Syracuse, a place ingrained in his family’s legacy, looms large, but Kiyan’s decision will ultimately hinge on his personal aspirations. "If it is Syracuse -- I go there a lot and I practice, I work out there -- if it is that, that's what it is. But he's never going to say, 'You gotta go to Syracuse. You gotta go there because I went there.' He's not going to make me follow in his footsteps unless I really want to,” Kiyan emphasized.
With a blend of remarkable talent, thoughtful guidance, and a supportive family, Kiyan Anthony is carving out his own path in the world of basketball. As he continues to rise, the choices he makes will resonate far beyond his famous surname, shaping a legacy that is uniquely his own.
