As the Miami Dolphins gear up for the upcoming NFL season, all eyes are on their star wide receiver, Tyreek Hill, who is entering the second year of his four-year, $120 million contract. Hill’s deal, which averages out to $30 million annually, makes him the fourth-highest-paid wide receiver in the league.
This substantial investment by the Dolphins appears well-deserved given Hill’s on-field performance. Last season, Hill led the NFL with an impressive 1,799 receiving yards, achieved through 119 receptions. He also topped the league in receiving touchdowns, with 13 to his name. Over the past two seasons, Hill has accumulated a remarkable 3,509 receiving yards, supported by 238 receptions and 20 touchdowns, earning him All-Pro honors.
Hill’s contract structure sees his base salary increase each year. This year, he is set to earn a base salary of $19.665 million, which will rise to $21.835 million in 2025 and peak at $43.9 million in 2026. The cap hits for the Dolphins will be significant, with $34.2 million in 2025 and a staggering $56.3 million in 2026. Notably, Hill's guaranteed money runs out after this year, adding a layer of complexity to his financial future with the team.
Hill’s Contentment and Focus
Despite the substantial figures involved, Hill remains unfazed by the financial aspects of his career. "I'm just very glad the position that I'm in now, man. The reason I say that is: I know when it's time for me to get a deal, the Miami Dolphins will do what's right," Hill said, expressing his confidence in the organization’s management.
Entering his ninth year in the league, Hill's focus has shifted towards building lasting bonds and achieving team success. "Money is the least of our worries right now. The biggest thing right now is to be able to grab onto something that we can hold onto the rest of our lives, as a brotherhood, as a fan base, as an organization," he emphasized. "If we're able to do that, I'll be happy."
The Changing Landscape of Wide Receiver Salaries
Hill also acknowledges the evolving landscape of wide receiver salaries. This offseason, Justin Jefferson signed a contract worth $35 million annually, surpassing Hill’s annual earnings. Additionally, A.J. Brown's contract is valued at $32 million per year, while Amon-Ra St. Brown's deal is worth $30.002 million annually.
Hill remains positive about these developments and their implications for his future. "I'm very excited to just be a part of the old wave, which was $30 million, and Justin Jefferson came and surpassed that, man. So, very proud of those guys, happy for obviously my teammate [Jaylen] Waddle getting his new deal," Hill stated. He added, "For guys like me, that's great. I'm 30 years old, also looking for a new deal. So, very, very excited to see where I fit into that category. It's amazing."
Looking ahead, Hill maintains a calm and optimistic attitude about his contractual future. "The contract, it'll come. Whenever it comes, I'll be happy," he remarked, demonstrating a mature perspective on the uncertainties that lie ahead.
As the new season approaches, Hill’s exceptional performance and his team-first mentality set a powerful example. The Dolphins will be counting on Hill to maintain his high level of play, while Hill seems prepared to embrace whatever the future holds, both on and off the field.
