Tyler Guyton's Rapid Rise with the Dallas Cowboys
Tyler Guyton, the Dallas Cowboys' first-round rookie left tackle, is making strides both on and off the field. Selected 29th overall, Guyton's intelligence and confidence have significantly set him apart, resonating with his teammates and coaches alike. His journey, which began at the University of Oklahoma where he started 13 of his 14 collegiate games at right tackle, has now led him to a starring role in Dallas.
Since joining the Cowboys, Guyton has quickly adapted to the team's system, demonstrating a commendable ability to pick up new techniques and strategies. Smith also highlighted Guyton's physical gifts, noting, "It's not very often that you find a human being who measures how he does, 6-7, 330 and has light feet and can just move and just bully dudes."
Off the field, Guyton continues to integrate seamlessly with his team. During a rookie karaoke session, he chose to perform "Mary Jane" by Rick James, explaining, "It's a song that everybody knows is groovy and that would work." However, not everything has been smooth sailing for Guyton. He faced an illness that caused him to miss three practices in a row, which undoubtedly set him back. Nevertheless, his spirit remains undeterred as he remarked, "I'm feeling better, for sure. I'm just under the weather, working my way back now." Guyton participated in a limited capacity in his first practice back, showing resilience and determination to return to full strength.
Looking ahead, the Cowboys are set to have a joint practice with the Los Angeles Rams, providing another opportunity for Guyton to test his skills against different competition. All eyes are on him as he steps into the role previously held by Tyron Smith, a legendary figure in the organization. However, Dak Prescott has urged Guyton to carve out his own legacy: "He has to be Tyler Guyton. It doesn't really matter who played here before him... At the end of the day, you just need to be yourself and the best version of yourself."
